If it every fails, good luck getting it repaired!, August 10, 2012

My BionX bike worked great until one day the battery would not charge anymore. I took it in for repair and they told me the fuse inside the battery case had failed. BionX of Canada wouldn’t let the local bike shop repair it. They insisted that they ship it back to Canada.

I brought the bike in for repair on June 12th. It is now August 10th! I have no idea how long it is going to be before BionX Canada returns my battery.

The moral of the story is: “If it every fails, good luck getting it repaired!”

Bionx is a great kit, you can really feel the power kick in and scoot you up hills. The battery pops off to secure the bike with a good lock. I love it.

I recently mounted this on my Stevens hybrid and love it. I frequently bike into gale force winds as I live out on the high plains and can now average 16 mph into 30 mile an hour winds (still gotta push it hard to do so). It’ll provide a major boost for 8 miles at least- can dial it back for longer range. It also has a regenerative mode for downhill or with the wind that works far better than I expected. The one downside is the finicky nature of the regenerative braking switch that you glue to your existing brake levers (I couldn’t get it to be reliable- it tended to stay on, easy enough to remove from the system) I would recommend looking into the brake levers sold as an accessory by BionX if using in a stop and go environment.
