The battery will work fine for 2-3 seasons provided you keep it charged.

My kids have enjoyed these for years, A new battery will last most of the day, and I do have hills. By the third season the charge won’t hold very long.

The quickest way to ruin lead-acid batteries is to discharge them deeply and leave them stand “dead” for an extended period of time. When they discharge, there is a chemical change in the positive plates of the battery. They change from lead oxide when charged to lead sulfate when discharged. If they remain in the lead sulfate state for a few days, some part of the plate does not return to lead oxide when the battery is recharged. If the battery remains discharged longer, a greater amount of the positive plate will remain lead sulfate. The parts of the plates that become “sulfated” no longer store energy. Batteries that are deeply discharged, and then charged partially on a regular basis can fail in less than one year.

Using the stock battery in your new Powerwheels will ultimately lead to a large disappointment. The battery is a simple Sealed lead acid battery. The same kind as you find in a battery backup unit for your PC.

The stock battery will only last about 10 minutes of continuous level ground use. Start adding small hills and start/stops and it goes down even further.

Plus the charger that comes from Fisher Price is a joke too. There is no over-charge protection available, and if you forget about it while charging, you’ll ruin the $60 battery.

Do yourself a favor and buy an aftermarket battery for those Powerwheels. You can buy them at a much higher run-time as well, and this allows you to spend more time with the kids playing, rather than charging batteries.

You can buy a regular car charger for the new battery, and it will not only charge faster (2 hours compared to the stock 18 hour recharge time) but it will last longer since there is no chance of over-charging. You could buy the battery and charger for less than this stock battery with fisher price’s logo slapped on it.

Check out this site. It covers all types of modifications and upgrades for Power Wheels. Improved runtime, speed, you name it.

I have bought four of these batteries. I feel like a fool after reading so many bad reviews. Please look for an alternative. Out of the four batteries I have not gotten 20 hours of use. It is sad that a company as Fisher Price would sell such a mediocre product. The ride on is nice, please look for an alternative on replacing the batteries.

THIS WAS A BUST. I purchased this to replace the original battery that came with my daughter’s Barbie Jeep. The original battery lasted about 3 years and worked very well before running out of juice. I read several reviews that concerned me saying that the replacement battery went dead very very quickly. Well, that’s exactly what happened to me . . . I read and followed the instructions closely, in terms of how long to charge initially, and then subsequent charging as well. We got about 3 charges out of it, and that’s it. I ended up throwing away the Jeep, and I’m taking this battery and the original battery to the dump, where they have a station to recycle old batteries. Amazon cannot take this product back . . since it is a hazardous material (acid), but, kudos to them, they credited me the purchase right away. I don’t know what to tell you on this one . . . it could be the batteries they have are old shelf batteries; it could be something wrong with our Jeep itself. . . BUT . . . if it can happen to me (and others that I read about), then it can happen to you. We’re going to purchase an upgraded vehicle from here and not fool around with replacement batteries anymore. GOod luck.

This battery was great for about two charge cycles…I charged it 18 hours the first time like the instructions said to do. Jeep ran great for about the expected two hours or so…Charged it again that night for 14 hours…ran great again…The third day, I charged it for 14 hours again and hooked it up to the jeep and NOTHING …I followed all of the instructions to a T. What a piece of JUNK. Power Wheels should be ashamed of themselves for selling such an awful product and doing nothing about it.
