Q&A: Electric bike laws in Massachusetts?

Question by 32: Electric bike laws in Massachusetts?
I am planning to buy an electric bike. I dont have a license and dont want one as i live near a commuter rail station. Massachuetts law says I need a license for an electric bike. But federal laws says
U. S. Congress passed Public Law 107-319 which exempts electric bikes under 750 watts and limited to 20 mph (with operating pedals) from the legal definition of a motor vehicle

So am i free to get an electric bike as long as i get a bike under the federal law specifcations?

Ask one of your local law enforcement people, they will know.
